Dark Skinned Laser Hair Removal

Nd:YAG Laser - Dark Skinned People Can Now Enjoy Laser Hair Removal Treatment

I can only try to imagine the thoughts that must have passed through the minds of all the dark skinned people who were denied laser hair treatment for all those years because their skin color was not suitable for the treatment. It must have been pretty frustrating especially for those to whom it really was a need. Thanks to Nd:YAG lasers, that has changed.

What Is Nd:YAG Laser?

Nd:YAG laser in full is known as Neodymium: Yttrium Aluminum Garnet laser. This a different type of laser from those previously in use for hair removal treatments. It is especially significant because it can be used on dark skin too. It is also used in the removal of tattoos and also for the treatment of pigmented lesions.

Is The Nd:YAG Laser Different From Other Types Of Lasers?

The simple fact that it can be used for treatments that others can not be used for is testimony that there must be some difference. The main difference that we seem to know of is the length of the wavelength. Its wavelength is much longer than the other lasers at 1064nm. The closest to it is the Diode laser which has a wavelength of between 800 and 810nm. As a result of this longer wavelength, the light energy from the laser can get through the safety measure on the skin to the hair follicles.

Is It Used For Dark Skinned People Alone?

Certainly not. In fact light skinned people may still have an easier treatment with it. This laser is just able to do what the others are not able to do by way of being used in the treatment of other skin tones including dark skin. It is also not used for hair removal alone. I know this has been mentioned earlier. It is used in the treatment of pigmented lesions and in tattoo removal.

How Safe Is It?

It is as safe as the normal laser hair treatment. A safety precaution that is taken is to cover the skin area that would be treated with a carbon based lotion. This further stops the skin from absorbing the energy which would have caused it harm.

Bear in mind that it is still laser and not an entirely new technology. It is just an adaptation of an existing technology meant to achieve more than was formerly possible.

Who Can Nd:YAG Lasers Be Safely Used On?

Most people can be treated with this laser so long as proper precaution is taken. Of course this does not include people with blond or gray hair.

Having said the above, it is always better to be safe than sorry. You would be wise to consult a specialist first before embarking on any treatments. You can rely on the expertise of the specialist to help you choose the best treatment for you.

With a specialist on hand, you can be sure that you are in good hands all through the process. Every instruction you need about what to do before, during and after the treatment would be delivered to you promptly.

You should always make sure all your laser hair removal treatments are handled by professionals for your own safety.
